Peter Dawkins, a scholar and founder of the Francis Bacon Research Trust, has extensively studied the works of Sir Francis Bacon and the traditions of various mystery schools with connections to hermetic streams of wisdom, including Rosicrucianism. Dawkins also explores the use of the “Double-A” or AA hieroglyph, a special symbol and secret sign of the mystery schools or schools of wisdom, which can be traced back to classical times,2 and that this mysterious signature can also be found in certain books, including the written works of Sir Francis Bacon.
He has proposed that Bacon left behind many secret writings which shed light on the true history and importance of his work. You can read more about it in his paper, which can be found on the website, or in his books on the subject.
In a research paper, Dawkins discusses the AA Sigil of the Mystery Schools and Secret Signature of Sir Francis Bacon, Shakespeare and the Rosicrucians. He suggests that the double triangle of the letter A found in some book ornaments and artworks was used to signify a form of embodied gnosis i.e. the ability to both recognise and embody wisdom, rather than simply just acquire knowledge.
In his book The Shakespeare Enigma, Dawkins uncovers clues hiding in plain sight which show that the prima facie evidence suggesting that William Shakespeare’s of Stratford-upon-Avon wrote the Shakespeare works is not what it seems. Instead, it is a double-truth – the truth of knowing and being (i.e revelation) – and shows a very different orientation towards wisdom beyond that of mere intellectual or scientific knowledge. It may also hint at Bacon’s involvement with some form of a philanthropic secret society dedicated to the enlightenment and good of all humanity, such as the Rosicrucians or Freemasons.
In summary, Dawkins’ thesis revolves around the idea that Francis Bacon used secret signatures in his works, which are keys to understanding deeper truths and wisdom. These signatures, according to Dawkins, are often overlooked due to their simplicity or obviousness.
